12 ITEMS I USE FOR ADVENTURE FILMING

DRONE EQUIPMENT

DJI Mini 3 Pro – This is the most recent item of kit I am using. I did have the Mavic 2 SE but without the vertical filming option and with no tracking ability I really didn’t get much use from it. This one has a better battery life and allows me to film more effectively. Because I already had a RC1 controller I was able to buy just the drone. There are two options for controllers and below there are the two controller options.

Drone cases: I find these cheap and simple cases great for transporting my drone and controller around.

Heavy duty case for drone and controller – If I was going to be doing more campervan travel then I would probably get a case like this.

CAMERA EQUIPMENT

Iphone 13 Pro (refurbished) – More and more I am using my iPhone to record my shorter adventures as I have it anyway so less kit to carry. I can also rig it up with the tripod below and attach the DJI Mic to it.

DJI OSMO Action 3 or 4: I have the Osmo Action 3 but have included the link to the 4 also. These are great little action cameras that have mounts so you can record in portrait and landscape. If you buy the bundle deal then you also get a selfie stick and a battery holder with spare batteries.

SmallRig Case for DJI Osmo Action 3 and 4: Annoyingly, I found that the case that comes with the DJI Osmo Action 3 didn’t work with the DJI Mic, so I bought this case. It is slightly heavier but more durable and better thought out.

DJI Mic: I found that my audio when using my phone or DJI Osmo Action wasn’t great especially when I was trying to do outside filming. This mic set has transformed that quality and works with both the iPhone and the Osmo Action.

Ulanzi Tripod: I have spent ages looking for a tripod that works well for filming at home and out on adventures. Most are too flimsy or aren’t good on uneven surfaces. This tripod, while a little heavier, does the job very well and has a little spirit level and mount on the side for a light (see below).

Filming light: This little light fits perfectly onto my Ulanzi tripod and my Smallrig case. It is rechargeable and dimmable.

ATUMTEK Camera Remote Shutter: I normally have a couple of these in my kit bag so I can set up better shots with a tripod, especially when I am alone.

DJI Pocket 2 and 3: This is my backup video camera for adventures. I have the original version so can only assume the newer editions are even better. The gimbal is great and allows you to capture some unique footage. The battery life is also pretty awesome. It comes with a case so it easy to shove in a pocket without too much worry. There is quite a difference in prices so I have put both options below.

Go Pro Suction Mount: I use this for filming driving content. It securely attaches to any flat, smooth surface and allows you to capture some epic driving timelapses.

Egg Timer Mount – This is a nice little addition to you filming kit. I use this most when I am in the mountains and there is an awesome sunrise or sunset. The rotating action really adds something to the footage.

KIT I’D LIKE TO USE

Insta360 X3: My friend has one of these and manages to capture some amazing footage while trail running and ski touring. What is really impressive is how quickly he can turn the footage around in the app. I bought a Go Pro Max and didn’t really find much use from it (hence not including in this list) but if I hadn’t I would have invested in this one.

Insta360 Go 3: I saw this on a Casey Niestat review and thought it looked like a great additional bit of kit for filming. Here is the link to the review: (23) this is the World’s Smallest Vlogging Camera and it’s pretty incredible – YouTube
